Although Orlando Aguilar doesn’t come from coffee growing parents, he got the passion for coffee from his family. He learned to produce coffee through his brothers and decided to follow in their footprints. At the young age of 14 and thanks to the encouragement of his brothers, he decided to become a coffee producer. Few believed in him, he was too young, but he was determined to create his own coffee business. From that moment onward, he started planting coffee and with the passing of years it became his main source of income.

His biggest challenge has been to improve his quality year after year. “The secret is to start asking and to be curious. There are lots of people in the region producing specialty coffee and it is important to create a network of coffee friends to exchange techniques, ideas, experiences and to share knowledge from one to another.” He says that through his network of contacts he has learned about processing, drying, and picking the correct way. 

It hasn’t been an easy process, but he is now very proud of his farm and what has been achieved.This helps him make improvements on his farm and as well as making him optimistic about the next harvest and the future of coffee in general.
